LEROI
SZ informed us in May 2007 that the band were no longer together and he (and the others) had moved on to pastures new.
Hey all,
Just to let you know that Leroi is no longer in existence. The people that signed us(Poly Anthony and Jordan Shur) were let go from the company. We then found there was no one to battle for our cause. We were subsequently let go from the label. I have now moved back to the UK and as you probably know am working with Mark Ronson. The other lads (Jonah Johnson, Richard (Pookie) Woods, Alexander Mace, Sean Curtis and some new editions) have formed a new band called Blackcowboy. They sound great and are currently playing live in venues in Los Angeles.I am working on two albums at the moment. The first of which is an extension of what I was doing in Leroi and the second is a “back to the old school” Jamiro-type of collaborative jam session. I am hoping to use singers and players i have worked with and some that i have not.
I will keep you all posted.
Thank you all for all the support you gave to Leroi. Nothing is lost, we just extend and grow!
Jah!!!!!!
Stuart Zender.
LEROI (pronounced Lee Roy) is Stuart’s latest project which presents driving Rock songs mixed in with melodic riffs, vocal hooks and heartfelt lyrical content. SZ is the leader and founder of this talented group of musicians, writing and producing a lot of the material himself. Along with the talents of lead vocalist Jonah Johnson (another integral band member), Richard Woods on piano and Alex Mace on lead guitar, the group have already started making waves with their music (especially in LA).
The band were originally know under the spelling LEROY, but that has since changed. Following this change, the band’s name arose in various interviews, newspapers and other press coverage, and they were soon presented to major record labels in the US – all of whom were chasing the band to sign on the dotted line.
Geffen (Interscope) records eventually won the chase for the bands signature in what was reported to be a ‘multi-million dollar deal’ and big things were set to follow. The band went back to the studio in Los Angeles to ‘beef’ up some of the tracks and re-record parts, but once done, things went silent.
It soon became apparent that not all was well in this deal between LEROI and Geffen, and although LEROI had presented a finished product to the record label, they didn’t appear to want to progress it any further. After a few more months of stalemate, both parties split and went their seperate ways. Things have still been quiet since, but the sheer quality of the bands music is sure to prevail – and with the backing of all Zender fans, and the support of new fans reaching the band through their MySpace page, we hope the band will find a new ‘solid’ deal soon enough and get a release out there to the public.
The most recent band line up from live performances was:
Stuart Zender – Vox/Bass
Jonah Johnson – Vox/Guitar
Alex Mace – Lead Guitar/Bck Vox
Sean Curtis – Guitar
Richard (Pookie) Woods – Keyboards/Samples/Bck Vox
Lawrence Lowe – Drums
So far we have only been treated to a few of the tracks recorded by LEROI. Various samples were made available on this very site – they can be found on the downloads page. These also include a full length version of the incredible track ‘Run’. Other full length versions of tracks can be found on the bands MySpace page.
The band are always looking for support. So if you have a MySpace page, please add the band to your friends list and leave them a comment! We’re all hoping for big things from the band in 2007!
