mostly clean with some light grit distortion from a sans amp bass driver

You guys remind me of Maroon 5, except for the fact that your music is a bit more electronic.
But the singer has somethink which reminds me of Maroon's one =)

Mate. You know I DO WANT to believe you. But I can't ! It sounds way too synthetic and "syncoped" to be just a slapped bass with a SansAmp... I have one (I can't play without it, really) and I can't get anywhere close to this kind of sound... When you're slapping it sounds like bass synth !

The main bassline IS synth bass, pre-recorded by Lex. Live, that IS what you are hearing, mainly, and he is slapping along to that, but it is very low in the mix.
